Hey Everyone! Today I am sharing the Summer 2015 Buffalo Collection from Gridlock Lacquer! I love posting about Gridlock Lacquer because it’s an indie polish brand based in my backyard: Buffalo, NY! GL is also one of the very first indie polish brands I bought and definitely helped get me into buying more indie brands, how cool right? AND I just love that there are polishes inspired by my city! Gridlock Lacquer has other city themed polish lines: Niagara Falls, Rochester, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and the soon to be released Detroit.
You can read more about Gridlock Lacquer in an article that was published in The Buffalo News! Check it out here: Kaisertown resident’s Gridlock Lacquer puts polish on city. Ok, let’s do this!
Let's start out with a bang, this is my fav from the collection! This is ‘For the Love of Larkin,’ a gorgeous blue toned neon pink. The Larkin Building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright but was demolished in 1950, Larkin Square is right next door. Larkin Square is a pretty hip-happening place these days, you can even find Gridlock Lacquer setting up shop there and check out their awesome polish live and in person! This polish is everything and quite possibly will be on my favorites of 2015 list! Shown here with 3 coats.
For nail art I did some reverse stamping using Winstonia Store stamp plate The Carnival with Bundle Monster Black Noir, and Rica Polish White Out.
Next is ‘City of Light.’ Ok, I love everything about this polish, the name, color, and it’s a neon crème! In 1901 the Pan-American Exposition was held in Buffalo, NY where the electric lightbulb was showcased and awed the world with the lights that lit the exhibition at night. This name is so perfect! Gaaahhhhhh Can you tell I love my city? I used 3 coats here for opacity, it applied nicely! This is a dupe for Color Club ‘Under The Blacklight.’ Loveeeee it!
These blue flower water decals from ebay look so good against ‘City of Light,’ can’t get enough of this color.
Next up is ‘Edward M. Cotter.’ This is named after the Buffalo Fireboat which is the oldest active fireboat in zeeee entire worlddddd! Holy gorgeous coral Batman! This coral crelly slayed me for real. It could be the truest coral in my collection, it gives me a total 60s Madmen vibe. This was 3 easy perfect coats.
Since it was just the perfect coral, I did some beach themed nail art. I paired it with OPI ‘Jinx’ for some texture, and then the stamping is done with Fresh Paints and Born Pretty plate BP-L017. The friggin adorable starfish charm is from @msnailgasm.
Last from the collection is ‘Grain Elevator,’ named for the historic grain elevators sprinkled along the Buffalo water front and canals. For many years people called these tall cylindrical buildings eyesores that were ruining the water front. As a student of design and architecture I’ve always thought they were interesting, beautiful and historically relevant. Thankfully now that Buffalo is experiencing a renaissance, we are embracing these structures and putting them to good use. I love that something that was once considered ugly is now becoming a bit of a trademark for Buffalo. I love gray polish and this one is so awesome! It really looks like concrete and is a perfect representation of the grain elevators. I used 2 coats here, applied nicely.
What better way to accentuate a neutral polish than with a neon! And how about a pink unicorn? Why not lol I paired ‘Grain Elevator’ with ‘For the Love of Larkin,’ using mini wave vinyls and unicorn from Vinyl It Up .
I’m so in love with this collection! It’s available now, go and check them out! Gridlock Lacquer
